Healing good

Went to check on Justin tonight and his head is looking great. Now to focus on growing the forelock back.

Starting the year off with a bang

Jan 11 I got a call from Glenda that I've been lucky not to have up till now. Justin cut his head and was going to need stitches. I left work right away and headed to the barn. Turns out he flipped his head at just the right time as he was going out of the back of the barn and cracked his head on the doorway.

Warning: Some of these photos are gross.

This is how it looked when I first got to the barn:

A little rocked but happy enough.

This is how it looked after the vet shaved and cleaned him up:
Gross!

This is how he looked right after getting stitched up:

On the good drugs now.

This is two days after it happened:

Looking pretty good. His already small forelock is now a puff.

These are from a week after it happened. Looking significantly yuckier as the scabs build and it starts to drain.

Happy boy.

Day 14 = Stitches Out!

He was a good boy when I took out his stitches. I did knock off some of the scabbing to get the stitches out but up close it seems to be all sealed up.

I can't thank Glenda enough for all her help. She gave him his shots of penicillin two times a day for five days and bute paste two times a day for more than a week. She saved me from having to make the 30 minute drive twice a day. I also have to thank Tommy, Zaria, Robin and Barb for holding Justin for his shots for Glenda. I'm truly blessed to have such and awesome horse family. Hopefully Justin will remain emergency vet call free for the next 13 years.
